About
The "Out of the Darkness Walk" is a signature fundraising and awareness event by the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention (AFSP), bringing communities together to fight suicide, support those affected, raise funds for research, and end the stigma around mental health by walking to symbolize hope and healing. These walks happen nationwide, with different formats like Community Walks (often 5Ks) and the challenging Overnight Walk, uniting hundreds of thousands annually to show that no one is alone in their struggle with suicide and depression.
What it's about:
Awareness & Stigma Reduction: To openly discuss mental health and suicide, showing it's okay to seek help.
Support & Connection: Providing a safe space for survivors, those struggling, and those grieving loved ones lost to suicide.
Fundraising: Generating money for AFSP's suicide prevention research, education, and advocacy programs.
